How to create online training

Online training or e-learning is all the rage. Big companies had all the tools for online training and e-learning. But now thanks to advances in technology and software development, any organization regardless of size can engage in the useful and powerful practice of online training.

Question: How do I start online training?

Answer:

Depending on your specific needs or time requirements, most organizations use content in the form of PowerPoints or even Word documents to set up their online training efforts. You are limited by your imagination.

The most important features for online training are:

  • Ease of use: the system should be easy to use for the content creator and end users or trainees. Spending valuable time trying to figure an elearning system is pointless.
  • Flexibility: Do you want to train 25 users or maybe 2500 users? The good e-learning management system or online training system should give you the capacity to add more users - and not pay a whole lot more
  • Security: Your online content can be at risk of prying eyes. Make sure the e-learning management system you choose is secure .. and I am not just talking about password access. If a system uses encryption for your content .. all the better for you.
  • SCORM: Fancy term meaning re-usability of content, tracking, interactivity, security etc. Personally if a system is SCORM compatible meaning it abides by the SCORM tenets then use it. Don’t get hanged up over lables. I have seen some powerful online training system that might not have SCORM stamped on them but which never the less deliver superior performance than some so called SCORM LMS’s
  • Support: An e-learning company should be able to provide you o-going support and technical assistance.
